In the wild, Kiger mustangs come in all shapes, sizes and colors. The American Kiger Horse Registry (AKHR) requires no inspection process, no minimum conformation criteria, and no age requirements. One of the goals of AKHR is to register all Kiger horses that can be traced back to one of the two recognized Oregon Kiger Herd Management Areas PRIOR TO DECEMBER 31, 2003.
To protect the integrity of the Registry, AKHR will be closing its books to horses who base their heritage on Kiger Herd Management Area and Riddle Mountain Herd Management Area foundation Kigers born after December 31, 2003. This decision was a difficult one and based on reliable information received regarding changes in management practices.
There currently is no charge for Registration with AKHR. Simply complete an application form and provide copies of any and all documentation for each Kiger. Pictures of each side of the Kiger is requested, but not required.

AKHR will actively promote Kiger breeders that participate in selective breeding practices and programs so as to retain the inherent quality or features of the original or primitive characteristics and attributes of the Kiger mustang. Those breeders of purebred Kigers (no found blood) are listed in the Breeder’s Directory.
Kigers are the best!" describes this breed. They are known for their million-dollar disposition, stamina, versatility, and beautiful and varied colors. It is well-known that the color Dun is preferred. AKHR strives to protect and preserve this living legend and was organized for the purpose. I hope that the American Kiger Horse Registry becomes your Registry of Choice!
