Found Blood or Found Horse – Designated by *

A found horse/mustang is one that was captured out of or can be traced back to a herd management area  other than the Kiger Herd Management Area (Kiger) or the Riddle Mountain Herd Management Area (Riddle).  Found mustangs originated or captured out of an Oregon herd management area (HMA) such as Paisley, Sheepshead, Palomino Butte, Sand Springs, etc. or out of a HMA in Nevada or Utah for example.  What makes these found mustangs different from other mustangs is the fact that they were, for whatever reason, registered with the Kiger registry (s) available at the time.  It has been recorded and told that in the early 1990s there was a shortage of available Kigers.  A handful of breeders chose to select mustangs that looked like Kigers from various HMAs other than Kiger or Riddle, and register them as Kigers.  In some cases, these found mustangs were registered and the record reflects their true origin.  However, there are a few found mustangs that were registered that do not accurately reflect their true origin.  The freeze brand numbers on these found mustangs, when verified by BLM, revealing their true origin.  When a Kiger is said to have “found blood” that can be construed to mean that a Kiger has a mustang ancestor that was not captured out of a Kiger or Riddle HMA, but was registered as a Kiger.
